Statement by National Security Council Spokesperson Ned Price on the Arrest of Journalists in Ethiopia

1792, Washington, DC, USA --- The White House as seen from Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House was built from the design submitted by Irishman James Hoban. The corner stone was laid on October 13, 1792. The footings for the main residence were dug by slaves and much of the work was performed by immigrants not yet citizens. John Adams was the first president to take residence in the White House on November 1, 1800. --- Image by © William Manning/Corbis
(The White House) — Having welcomed developments in Ethiopia earlier this year–including the release of several detained bloggers–that suggested increased protections for the fundamental right of free expression, we are deeply concerned by the recent arrests of other journalists in Ethiopia. We continue to urge the Ethiopian Government to build on earlier developments by strengthening free speech protections and broadening democratic progress, and note that the continued stifling of independent voices will only inhibit such progress as well as development and economic growth.

An open letter to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, his “Excellency” Hailemariam Desalegn – the TPLF adoptee and stooge

By Michael Johnson
timthumbYour “Excellency” Hailemariam Desalegn, I hope you, like your masters, the fascist TPLF mafias, realize that your hands are marred with the blood of innocent Oromo children, students, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters and the elderly.
At this time, you are presiding over a mafia emergency command post composed of the murderers; Army chief of staff, the chief of TPLF spy and security agent, the chief of federal police and others who are giving orders to the forces marauding the Oromo land, Oromia.

Power ambition and willing to kill the Oromo youth The case of Dr. Mitiku Tesso

By Rundassa Eshete
Dr. Mitiku Tesso
Dr. Mitiku Tesso
Fired by the opportunity of making money and with the dream to become an ambassador, Dr. Mitiku Tesso’s ugly arrogance is getting out of control. Recently, the Oromo youth/the Oromo people have been fighting the Tigre colonial force in Oromia and this revolutionary movement is taking place at breathtaking speed creating a heart-stopping moment for the Tigre colonizers.  As a result, the Tigre rulers have reversed their master plan deal, even recognized the fact that they are wrong for down playing the unique rights that the Oromo people have on Finfinnee city.
Mean while, Dr. Mitiku Tesso, a man who dreams to become Ethiopia’s ambassadar is sniffing around for a crumb of power that he dreams to have thinking that the Tigreans will stay in power for ever. Of course, Mitiku Tesso have made lots of money, he bought a house in Minnesota of USA, where his kids currently live and go to school. He had built nice vilas in Finfinnee and it\’s surrounding areas.  As if this is not enough, Dr. Mitiku Tesso further dreams to share Abay Tahayye’s last supper, not knowing that the Tigre colonial era is nearing.  To appease his Tigre masters and get his dream job of becoming the next Ethiopia’s ambassador, he willingly invited the Agazi army to Ambo university, Awaaroo branch and let them beat the students indiscriminately and destroy dormitories. Prior to inviting the Tigre butchers to come and murder the students, he told

EU calls for peaceful dialogue to end killings in Ethiopia

OromoProtestPic2015(newsjs) — The European Union (EU) calls on Ethiopian government and opposition to end peacefully through dialogue the ongoing conflicts in Oromia and Amhara regions of the country, which has caused the death of dozens of citizens, among others.
“The recent unrest in the Oromia and Amhara regions of Ethiopia has caused a considerable number of casualties and only a constructive dialogue among all affected parties can lead to a peaceful and sustainable resolution of such disputes. Working within the framework of Ethiopia’s Constitution, all stakeholders need to continue such a dialogue and refrain from recourse to violence and inflammatory statements,” EU said in its press statement yesterday.

CRIMES THAT MADE THE OROMO YOUTH REVOLT

From the Forest Fires of 2000 to the Conflict over the AAMP in 2014 and Beyond
By Mekuria Bulcha
xmxIntroduction
Literature on social movements shows that student activism has been a catalyst in regime change in many countries around the world. In Asia and Latin America it had a significant role in the fall of many regimes. In the West, the anti-establishment student movements of the 1960s had significant effects on both national and global politics. The role of student movements in struggles against colonialism in Africa and Asia is also on record. In Ethiopia, a student movement, in the 1960s and early-1970s, was a catalyst for the revolution that led to the downfall of the Haile Selassie regime in 1974. It is common knowledge that Oromo students from high schools, colleges and universities have been expressing grievances and making peaceful demands on behalf of their people, and that the response of the Ethiopian regime has been violent during the last fifteen years. Although the conflict between them has persisted for more than a decade and half, a holistic picture that shows the complexity of the issues which constitute the demands of the Oromo students and the psychology of domination and fear that underpin the repressive responses of the leaders of the TPLF-led regime to the student demands is lacking.[1] This article attempts to fill the gap.

(Hank Cohen’s Africa Blog) — The political leaders of the Ethiopian Government have a policy of killing all opponents who take to the streets to demonstrate against them. Other opponents who do not demonstrate but make public statements instead, are sent to jail for long periods.
I fail to understand why the Ethiopian regime feels it necessary to exercise such extreme control to the point of committing murder periodically against their own citizens.  The government is receiving good marks from the international community for its investments in infrastructure and agriculture.  If it could relax and loosen up its controls, it could become popular.

It is crystal clear that Oromo dwells on its native land Oromia. Unequivocally, Oromo never demanded any one’s native land in Ethiopian Empire, or elsewhere including State of Tigarai. True history of Oromo and existing reality testify that Oromo is known for peaceful co-existence among its neighbor states and peoples. Nevertheless, Oromo had been marginalized, subjugated and displaced by Emperors and the Military Junta who were once in power of Administering the Empire of Ethiopia.
To overthrow the unjust rulers, even of their own people, Oromo and Tigrai people were main stakeholders in co-struggle. Consequently, as matter of luck,

Unprecedented’ Protests in Ethiopia Against Capital Expansion Plan

Students from the Oromo ethnic group in Ethiopia have been protesting for three weeks against an urban expansion plan around the capital that they fear will lead to land grabs without proper compensation. Security forces have clashed with demonstrators, killing at least five people this week.

The student protests have spread quickly through the Oromo region that surrounds the capital. Farmers and other citizens have been joining the demonstrations.
The government accuses some of the protesters of trying to destabilize the country.

Statement of the Oromo Liberation Front Regarding the War that the Ethiopian Government Has declared on the Oromo People

asxaa_oromo

(Oromo Liberation Front) — The illegitimate TPLF/EDRDF led Ethiopian regime, who has been jailing, killing and torturing the Oromo people over the last 25 years, has renewed a second round of war on the Oromo people on December 15, 2015 and has empowered its military force on the Oromo people and Oromia for the purpose of suppressing the protest of the people which is being conducted in Oromia peacefully. Although this war of declaration is not new, there is no doubt that it will result in massacre of peaceful
civilians.
This futile attempt of this regime, which has been suppressing and exploiting all the peoples of Ethiopia after coming to power through force of arms in order to silence all peaceful resistance against its repressive rule will not produce any solution other than facilitating its demise. Therefore the Oromo Liberation (OLF) would like to reiterate that the current TPLF led Ethiopian government and the international community who are silently watching will be ultimately responsible for any massacre that is to be perpetrated on the Oromo people.
