The Oromo Studies Association is organizing its annual conference under the theme “Gada and Oromo Democracy: Celebrating 40 Years of Research and Oromo Renaissance”. We have invited Oromo Gada councilors and Abbaa Gadaas as guests of honors and panelists on Gada and conflict resolution panel. One of the objectives the conference is to promote Oromo Gada system on a global stage and lobby UNESCO to recognize Gada institution as a heritage of humankind. In this regard, we would like to ask all willing, able and conscious Oromos living in Washigton DC area and other cities where Oromo Diaspora live in large numbers to come out in mass and accord them a warm welcome. Abba Gada Aaga Xanxano Guya will arrive at Washington Dulles International Airport on July 30, 2014 at 8:30 AM. The Abba Gada team will be traveling by Ethiopian Airlines. We are also actively working on organizing a panel on “The Future of Oromo Political struggle; Challenges and Opportunities” where representatives of some of the political parties and opinion leaders will be invited to express their views on questions from the moderators of the panel.
We have many distinguished OSA scholars and professionals coming to present their research papers at this historic conference. Dr. Gudata Hinika is a Keynote Speaker for the opening day of the conference. We also Professor Asmarom Legesse, author of “Gada: Three approaches to the study of an African society, 1973” as one of our distinguished guests. Professor Beyene Petros will also be attending our annual conference.
We managed to secure a large venue with possibilities for a breakout sessions. We hope that this historic annual conference is going to be a major success with the support of each and every one of you. Because of the large number of speakers we ask conference all participants to arrive in time. Both national and international Medias are welcome but required to register with the conference organizers and get permission and guidelines to attend. Businesses who want to promote or sale their products at the conference must register with the conference organizers for rules and regulations. We ask all our members and supporters to make arrangements to attend in time and ask their friends to attend as well. The conference is open to the public.
