I would like to invite you on behalf of Jonas Staal and the entire team of the New World Summit to the 4th New World Summit in the Royal Flemish Theater (KVS) in Brussels, starting Friday evening 19th of September and ending Sunday evening 21st of September 2014. This edition is entitledNew World Summit: Stateless State. Because of your affiliation with the issues addressed in the summit, we would hereby like to offer you a free entrance ticket to attend one or several days to the program. During these three days, 20 representatives of ‘stateless states’ worldwide will engage in a debate regarding the question to what extent the concept of the state is still capable of representing and protecting a people’s right to self-determination. In five consecutive segments, titled Oppressive State(Friday 19:00 – 22:00), Progressive State (Saturday 13:00 – 16:00), Global State (Saturday 17:00 – 20:00), New State (Sunday 13:00 – 16:00) en Stateless State (Sunday 17:00 – 20:00) representatives of stateless organizations and states will discuss the meaning, potentials and obstacles that the state embodies today.
Confirmed speakers represent organizations that have either been denied representation, or aim to transform an existing state, or alternatively, create a new state altogether. These include representatives of the World
Uyghur Congress (WUC); the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF); the Democratic Solidarity Party of Al-Ahwaz (DSPA); the Congress
of Nationalities for a Federal Iran (CNFI); theRehoboth Baster Community; the left-wing Basque coalition Euskal Herria Bildu; the National Democratic Front of the Philippines(NDFP) and the Free Movement of New Women (MAKIBAKA);Women on Waves (WoW); the Southern Azerbaijani Alliance; theBaluchistan People’s Party(BPP); the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK); the Kurdish women’s movement Kurdistan Communities of Women (KJK); the National Government of the Republic of West Papua(NGRWP), the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) as well as Birgitta Jónsdóttir of the Icelandic Pirate Party and representatives of Somaliland and Tamil Eelam. Chairs of the debates include Jan Goossens (Royal Flemish Theatre); Véronique Dudouet (Berghof Foundation); Jolle Demmers (Center for Conflict Studies, Utrecht University), Jan Fermon (Progress Lawyers Network) and Maria Hlavajova (BAK, base for contemporary art, Utrecht NL).
